High-strength and flexible mechanism for body weight support

Abstract Wearable body weight support systems can assist individuals with mobility impairments in performing daily living activities greater ease and independence. However, existing have limitations terms of balancing their strength, compact size, interaction the ground, driving. In this paper, we present High-Strength Flexible Mechanism (HSFM) designed for support. The HSFM utilizes a coiling truss mechanism to perform flexible transformation between straight spiral shape. Its complex linkages create mechanical constraints structure enhance its stiffness. Additionally, achieved high extension rate, effective wire-driven mechanism, smooth shift grounding point. We provide detailed description HSFM, including simplest 4-linkage constraints, mechanism. Moreover, conducted parametric analysis geometric calculation on link structure. results justified ensured rate. Further, functionality was evaluated hardware showed sufficient grounding, wire-driven. This novel has potential develop wearable robot enhancing such as sit-to-stand transfer walking.
